The Chaff Shed is the main reception space and comfortably seats up to 80 guests. The Coach House, one of Sunnybrae's original heritage-listed buildings, is the second largest at 200 round or 220 trestle, with rustic charm and subtle modern finishes in a neutral palette that suits rustic opulence, Tuscan winery or country-chic styling. Ìkos, named from the Ancient Greek for the family and the family's house, has high ceilings, modern finishes and an abundance of glass opening to manicured grounds, taking 140 on rounds or 160 on trestles plus the bridal table. The Pavillion is the most intimate at 70 round or 100 trestle, with open views of the Rose and Palm Gardens and doors onto a paved terrace under festoon lighting.

Partridge House is a historic property at Glenelg, about 20 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and a stone's throw from the beach. The house dates from the mid-1800s and sits in community gardens on traditional Kaurna land. It handles the whole day in one place: ceremony, reception and photographs.

Garden areas can be reserved for outdoor ceremonies, and the iconic spot is under the elm tree. One of the indoor rooms doubles as the wet-weather contingency and is a good option for a winter wedding in its own right. Receptions are held in the elegant main rooms, seated or cocktail style. The Partridge Room takes 90 standing or 70 to 75 seated; the Courtyard Room takes 90 standing or 65 to 70 seated; combined, the Partridge and Courtyard rooms hold 180 for a standing cocktail function. The heritage-listed cottages blend historic character with modern comforts: the Stallion Box, a queen suite for a couple in the old stallion's cottage; Swaggies Hut, a self-contained king suite in the hut built for travelling swagmen; the Groom's Quarters as a two or four bedroom self-contained apartment, or seven with the Harness Room; the Lodge for four; Council Chambers for five; the Manager's House for seven; the Men's Kitchen for ten; and Shearers Quarters camping for 25.

Al Ru Farm is a country estate at Sampson Flat, north of Adelaide, built around ten acres of gardens that have been developed over decades: the property still holds an annual open garden in memory of Ruth Irving, whose legacy the gardens carry. A wedding here means exclusive access: the venue hosts only one wedding at a time.

The estate scales from intimate to grand. Packages are built around guest numbers, with smaller romantic weddings for up to 45 guests at one end and celebrations for over 220 on the lake lawn, with marquee options, at the other. Reception areas run both indoors and outdoors, and the ten acres of gardens give couples a wide choice of ceremony settings and photography spots.

The Vine Shed sits in the heart of McLaren Vale, in the Conte Estate circa 1880 Shiraz vineyard, and carries three generations of winemaking behind it. It is a cellar door and function venue rather than a pure winery, and it won McLaren Vale New Business of the Year in 2021.

The room itself is the draw. Chunky timbers, brushed black metals, timber floors, large barn doors and floor-to-ceiling windows look out over estate vineyards both new and old, giving the space what the venue calls high-end rustic charm. It seats up to 160 guests for a sit-down reception, and there are versatile indoor and outdoor areas so the day can move between the two. Couples routinely note that the natural features mean very little styling is needed.

Hazelmere Homestead was founded in the mid-1980s as one of the first bespoke wedding venues to open in the Adelaide Hills, and it remains family-owned. It sits on 75 acres of rolling countryside at Echunga, about 40 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and close to the accommodation options in nearby Hahndorf, with three of those acres given over entirely to gardens.

The circa-1901 Edwardian homestead sits at the centre of three acres of botanical gardens, and the gardens carry the ceremony and pre-dinner drinks. The Pavilion, once a fernery, is the reception space: an open-plan room with a bluestone feature wall, shimmering festoon lights, a wet bar and windows opening to the gardens, so dining and mingling happen in the same room. Expansive lawns take lawn games, cocktail dining or overflow seating. The venue quotes a ceremony capacity of 300 standing or 120 seated, and 300 standing for the reception.

Glen Ewin Estate is a heritage-listed property in the Adelaide Hills at Lower Hermitage, held by the same family since 1843 and run today as South Australia's premier heritage wedding venue. Sweeping lawns look over manicured gardens, scenic lakes, orchards and native woodland, and the whole estate sits about 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD.

There are two principal wedding rooms. The Pulpshed is a timeworn timber barn dating from the 1850s, nestled among old stone buildings next to the original homestead, with expansive lawns sweeping down to the lake; it takes the larger receptions. The Gatehouse is the newer building at the top of the valley, bright and lofty with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a sunny deck over a picturesque pond. The grounds themselves are used for outdoor ceremonies and events, and the estate reports hosting from intimate dinners through to large sit-down receptions.

Ayers House is a heritage property on North Terrace in the centre of Adelaide, with a long history of hosting events, and it runs ceremonies and receptions in a setting where heritage meets hospitality. The venue's own framing is straightforward: elegance and charm in the heart of the city, with a dedicated team supporting couples from the first consultation to the final farewell.

Food is what Ayers House leads with. A highly talented in-house team works with local suppliers to source South Australian produce, caters for all dietary needs, small children and suppliers, and gives couples flexibility to build their own menu. For seated receptions the packages include a choice menu, with the team taking individual orders so each guest gets a personalised dining experience. For cocktail receptions the focus shifts to keeping the flow of bites and drinks going through the night.

Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard sits about 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD at Lenswood, with breathtaking views over the vineyard and rolling hills. The design is stylishly rustic, and the setting of sloping vines, with apple and cherry farms, pine forest and natural bushland beyond, is what most couples come for.

Ceremonies are held on the lower lawn, under a magnificent flowering eucalypt. Pre-reception drinks and canapés are served on the outdoor deck, and then guests move inside for a boutique reception with capacity for 100 seated guests or 150 for a cocktail-style event.
