An award-winning McLaren Vale restaurant in a converted currant shed, seating 70 inside or 80 opening onto the lime-grove patio, with the Shottesbrooke cellar door on the same estate.
The Currant Shed is a restaurant at McLaren Vale that specialises in bespoke weddings and events, and won Best Restaurant Reception at the 2020 SA ABIA Wedding Industry Awards. The building's original timber framework, with the drying rack holes still visible, is a distinguishing feature, and the dark polished floor and locally made American Oak furniture give the interior a sleek Scandinavian feel. Small details carry the same thinking: butter knives made from old barrel staves by the chef, and water glasses made in-house from up-cycled wine bottles.
The restaurant looks over the vineyards on one side and the estate's lime grove on the other. It holds a maximum of 70 people for sit-down weddings and functions, and in the warmer months opens onto the patio above the lime grove for 80 seated. A private dining room takes up to 30 for sit-down functions, with vineyard and courtyard views, natural light and audio visual facilities, and the courtyard can be used for pre-drinks on request.
The venue draws on the wider estate. Shottesbrooke Vineyards cellar door is a short walk away and can cater for events up to 200 guests across indoor and outdoor spaces, including its barrel shed. The Picker's Hut picnic area comfortably takes 20, or more by arrangement. McLaren Vale Getaways accommodation on site can be booked in conjunction with a wedding, so guests stay on the estate. We did the degustation with paired wines. Food was incredible, and wine matched perfectly. We were thrilled. It’s a beautiful spot too. We went on a Thursday lunch so it was pretty quiet but made for a very calm and enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back!
