Bungaree Station was established in 1841 in the Clare Valley and is still run by the Hawker family today. It was once the most northern settlement in South Australia, and the historic farm shop is largely unchanged since the 1840s. The property reads as a village rather than a single building: a complex of sandstone colonial buildings set in rural landscape that guests are welcome to explore.
The station describes itself as an historic property to suit all occasions, from small team meetings to large wedding receptions, and venue hire covers weddings, conferences and events. What sets it apart from a function centre is that guests stay on site. The heritage-listed cottages blend historic character with modern comforts: the Stallion Box, a queen suite for a couple in the old stallion's cottage; Swaggies Hut, a self-contained king suite in the hut built for travelling swagmen; the Groom's Quarters as a two or four bedroom self-contained apartment, or seven with the Harness Room; the Lodge for four; Council Chambers for five; the Manager's House for seven; the Men's Kitchen for ten; and Shearers Quarters camping for 25.
Beyond the wedding itself, the station runs guided tours of the historic station complex and the modern farming enterprise, along with a Station Store for coffee and local produce. It also offers multi-night packages in collaboration with Clare Valley wineries, so a wedding weekend can extend into the region.
