Settlers Rest Verified venue

Hunter Valley · 230 km
5.0 / 5 (37 reviews)
from $12,000

Settlers Rest is a premium wedding venue and expansive accommodation estate in the heart of the Hunter Valley. The property spans around 550 hectares of picturesque country land, offering rolling pastures, rustic trees and open skies as your backdrop.

Settlers Rest feels like a hidden gem you stumble upon rather than a conventional wedding venue. When I visited, I was blown away by the sheer size of the place – it’s set on roughly 550 hectares of rolling pastures in Howes Valley. Picture long stretches of open fields, giant gum trees and a big, open sky above you. It manages to feel both secluded and easy‑going at the same time. There are four different ceremony spots dotted around the property, each framed by rustic trees and neat lawns, so you get that “in the bush” vibe without giving up the polished touches. What really sets Settlers Rest apart, though, is how flexible it is. There are three reception areas, so you could do a cosy sit‑down dinner in the pavilion or throw a big party under a marquee on the grass.

They let you bring in your favourite caterer or go with their in‑house team, and you can stock the bar yourself, which is great if you’re particular about your menu. There’s accommodation for about 30 people on site, plus camping or motorhome spots if you want to make a weekend of it. The biggest draw for me, though, is that when you book Settlers Rest, you get the whole place to yourself for the weekend. There’s something special about knowing there won’t be another wedding happening next door. You and your guests can wander the grounds, have a relaxed welcome dinner, even recover with brunch the next morning without ever leaving the property. If your ideal wedding is tucked away in nature but still comfortable, with plenty of space and privacy to do things your way, I can’t recommend Settlers Rest enough.

Wandarra Homestead Verified venue

Central West · Mudgee · 290 km
5.0 / 5 (37 reviews)

Wandarra Homestead might be smaller than some other properties on this list, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. The restored homestead, which is perched on 25 acres of hillside overlooking Elephant Mountain, offers elopement packages for up to 8 guests. There are multiple ceremony spots — a rustic stone shed, rose garden or a sun-drenched lawn — and you can celebrate afterward in the speakeasy bar “Grandma’s Tipsy”, or use the private transfers included in the package to enjoy a celebration meal at a nearby winery of your choice.

Because the guest list tops out at 8 people, Wandarra weddings feel more like a special family gathering than a big event. You can take your time with drinks and charcuterie, share stories around the bar and watch the sunset over rolling paddocks without feeling rushed. It’s also BYO friendly, giving you control over everything from the catering to the playlist.

One of the best parts of Wandarra is the sense of tranquillity you’ll experience. Being on top of a hill means the views go on forever, and the combination of historic charm and modern comforts makes it a refreshing retreat from city life. If you’re dreaming of a petite farm wedding that feels like a weekend away with loved ones, Wandarra is a lovely pick.

Whitevale Estate

Whitevale Estate

Hunter Valley · Lovedale · 160 km
4.8 / 5 (12 reviews)

At first glance Whitevale Estate looks like a sleek, modern home, but it’s very much a country retreat. The main house sleeps 18 guests across seven bedrooms and six bathrooms and includes cosy fireplaces, an outdoor fire pit and a pool. Because the property is surrounded by lawns and gardens, you can set up a marquee for up to 100 guests and still have room for lawn games and a dance floor.

One of the best things about Whitevale is how easily you can bring the farm vibe to life. Think hay bales as seating, a vintage truck as a bar or grazing tables with fresh local produce. The mountain and vineyard views add a real sense of place, reminding you that you’re in the heart of the Hunter, not a suburban back yard.

Because you have exclusive use of the estate, there’s no rush to pack up and leave. Enjoy a wine tasting the day before, a recovery picnic by the pool or a long brunch on the terrace. This mix of modern luxury and rustic charm makes Whitevale ideal for couples wanting a stylish yet laid‑back farm celebration.

4.8 / 5 (32 reviews)

Hinterland House blends Australian colonial heritage with tropical vibes, making it a unique option for a farm wedding. The 1906 homestead sleeps 16 guests and has wide verandas perfect for sunset drinks. The Casa

The Casa

South Coast · Kangaroo Valley · 160 km

The Casa feels like a Mediterranean villa dropped into Kangaroo Valley. The whitewashed buildings, arched windows and terracotta floors give off major holiday vibes, yet the property is still unmistakably Australian thanks to the surrounding paddocks and bush escarpments. With accommodation for 20 guests and features like a pool cabana, fire‑pit and tennis court, it’s easy to make yourself at home.

Weddings at The Casa are kept intentionally small (usually around 20 guests) which encourages lingering dinners and relaxed celebrations. BYO catering lets you bring in your favourite feast, whether that’s a banquet of shared Mediterranean plates or a gourmet barbecue. Because there’s a minimum three‑night stay, you get the luxury of settling in and really making the space your own.

Perhaps the best part of The Casa is how it seamlessly blends European charm with Aussie farm vibes. You can sip Aperol spritz on the veranda, watch kangaroos grazing in the paddock and then dance under the stars. For couples looking for a laid‑back wedding that feels like a getaway with friends, this venue is a one‑of‑a‑kind find.

Mayfield Vineyard

Mayfield Vineyard

Central West · Orange · 250 km
4.2 / 5 (51 reviews)

Mayfield Vineyard proves you can have a farm‑style wedding and still enjoy all the perks of wine country. The estate includes a 100‑year‑old homestead and several cottages that sleep 28 guests, plus event spaces ranging from a lakefront lawn to a glass‑walled reception hall known as The Grove. You can tailor your day to suit: perhaps a lakeside ceremony followed by cocktails under the willows before heading inside for dinner and dancing.

One of Mayfield’s charms is how it blends rustic elements with a polished finish. Geese wander along the lake, vineyards line the hills and there are arboretum paths to explore between courses. Because they offer BYO catering and bar options, you’re free to bring in your favourite wine or local beer and design a menu that reflects your tastes.

If you and your guests love the idea of staying on site, Mayfield’s cottages make that possible.
