Set in the historic town of Kalbar, about an hour from Brisbane, White Chapel is a country chapel that has been restored rather than made over. The timber floors are original, the walls are panelled, iron chandeliers hang overhead and the gothic altar is back-lit. The building is fully air-conditioned, which counts for a great deal in a Queensland summer. Couples can marry inside, or outdoors in the Chapel Gardens, where a pergola and fountain make a second ceremony setting and a favoured spot for photographs.
The chapel accommodates up to 90 guests for a ceremony, with the garden pergola taking the same number outdoors. Receptions then go one of two ways. Black Hall, the former Sunday school, is now a barn-style room with a stone fireplace, an antler chandelier and long rustic timber tables. The Barn and Grounds sit outside, with a rustic pressed-metal bar, festoon lighting and wood burners, seating 80 guests or holding 90 for cocktails.
Catering is in-house and exclusive, included in every package and prepared by the venue’s chefs, with the couple supplying the wedding cake, which the kitchen cuts and serves as dessert. The bar is licensed in-house and BYO alcohol is not permitted, so a standard beverage package or a minimum-spend tab applies, with minimum spends in place on Fridays and Saturdays. Ceremony hire covers 70 white bentwood chairs, plinths with urns and floral arrangements, a French provincial signing table, a PA and music system and champagne for the couple. A wedding day coordinator meets couples on site four to six weeks out, with a separate ceremony coordinator and assistant on the day, and accommodation is available on site. The combination of a genuinely historic chapel, two contrasting reception spaces and a deeply inclusive package makes White Chapel Kalbar an outstanding country chapel wedding venue.
