A heritage-listed former power station on the Brisbane River, now one of the city’s most characterful wedding venues.
Standing on the bank of the Brisbane River, the Brisbane Powerhouse is a heritage-listed former power station that has never tried to disguise what it once was. Raw concrete, enormous ceilings and decades of artists’ work left on the walls give it a character no styling budget could buy. Ceremonies are held outdoors on the Riverbend Terrace, a timber deck built out over the river, or upstairs on the heritage-listed Rooftop Terrace, an indoor-outdoor space the venue describes as having the best river views in Brisbane.
The venue accommodates up to 150 guests, with the Turbine Platform seating 150 or holding 175 for a cocktail reception beneath its cathedral-like ceilings and original industrial detail. The Rooftop Terrace seats 50 to 100 or holds 150 standing, which makes it a natural place for drinks between the ceremony and dinner. The Riverbend Terrace suits ceremonies and cocktail groups of up to 75, and the Powerhouse Plaza, the outdoor forecourt at the building’s main facade, stretches to 500 standing. Moving between spaces lets the day change setting as it unfolds.
Catering is exclusively in-house through the venue’s partner, Wine&Dine’m Catering, and external caterers are not permitted. Beverage packages are priced per head, or drinks can be served on consumption against a pre-paid tab. A dedicated wedding planner is assigned to every wedding, so timings, running order and suppliers are handled by someone who knows the building. There is no accommodation on site, though the venue sits within easy reach of New Farm and the city centre. The combination of heritage industrial character, riverfront terraces and in-house catering and planning makes Brisbane Powerhouse an outstanding city wedding venue.
