The Shearing Shed is a family-run wedding venue on Gap Road, a few minutes from Cowes on Phillip Island. Owner Abbie runs the weddings, and the property is also the family's home, which is why visits are by appointment only. The venue says it hosts more than 80 weddings a year for couples from across Victoria.
Everything happens on the one property. Ceremonies are held either in The Barn, an indoor space with timber beams that works in any weather, or outdoors at The Billabong, a lawn beside a native waterhole framed by trees. Guests then move to The Courtyard for drinks, canapés and lawn games before heading inside The Shearing Shed itself for the reception.
The Shearing Shed is the namesake reception building, renovated for weddings, with seating for up to 110 guests, a fully stocked bar, a dancefloor and new bathrooms. In-house chefs cook in an on-site commercial kitchen, with feasting, cocktail and alternate drop menus, and food trucks can be discussed instead. Wine, beer, spirits and cocktails are served through drinks packages, bar tabs or pay as you go.
Bookings come with exclusive use of the venue, staff, furniture, crockery and glassware, and full set-up and pack-down. Micro weddings and winter weddings are also offered.
