Some venues give you a room and a list of suppliers to call. The Shearing Shed gives you the whole day. Tucked away on Gap Road, a few minutes from Cowes on Phillip Island, this family-run property puts the ceremony, the drinks, the dinner and the dancefloor on one private 20-acre site, with the kitchen, the bar and the team all in-house. Their own line for it is “where I do meets hell yes”, and after a look around, it’s hard to argue.

A venue that feels like family

The Shearing Shed is run by Abbie, who describes herself as the boss lady, hype woman and chief celebration coordinator, and a proud professional third wheel at hundreds of weddings. It started as a family venue and it still is one: her husband Scott pitches in when a fence needs fixing or a bar fridge needs moving, and their teenage daughters have been known to work as official canapé testers.

That shows in how the place runs. The team do this every weekend, handle the timeline and the set-up, and are on hand from the first site visit through to last drinks. Couples in their Google reviews keep coming back to the same names and the same word: relaxed.

The Barn: a ceremony that doesn’t care about the forecast

Phillip Island weather has a mind of its own, which is exactly why The Barn exists. It’s the indoor ceremony space: timber beams, soft lighting and a warm, intimate feel that works whether it’s sunny or blowing a gale outside. The venue calls it a beautiful plan A, B or C, and it suits styling that goes all out just as well as a simple aisle that lets the room do the work.

The Billabong: vows beside the water

For an outdoor ceremony, The Billabong is the one. It sits beside a native waterhole, framed by lush greenery and a picture-perfect treeline, with gently sloping lawns that give everyone a clear view of the aisle. It’s peaceful and private, and it suits anything from barefoot boho to classic styling. If the weather turns, The Barn is right there as a backup.

The Courtyard: where the party spills outside

Once the vows are done, guests wander into The Courtyard. It sits between the ceremony and reception spaces, with shade, seating, lawn games, bubbles and canapés doing the rounds while the couple are away for photos. As the sun drops, the festoon lights come on and it becomes the bridge between “I do” and the dancefloor.

The Shearing Shed: dinner, speeches and a dancefloor that doesn’t quit

The reception happens in the namesake building, purpose-renovated for weddings. It seats up to 110 for a sit-down feast, or more for a cocktail-style night, and has a fully stocked bar, a commercial kitchen run by the in-house chefs, a dancefloor and brand new bathrooms (which the venue is quite proud of, and fair enough). Menus run from feasting to cocktail to alternate drop, and couples can choose a drinks package or run a bar tab.

What’s included

The pitch is simple: no juggling caterers, bar staff, furniture hire and timelines across a dozen browser tabs. A wedding at The Shearing Shed includes:

Receptions start from $210 per person, covering 5 hours of venue hire, catering, a 5 hour drinks package and staff, with no cakeage fees. The venue sends its full wedding price guide by email.

Winter and micro weddings

The Shearing Shed leans into the cooler months rather than apologising for them. Winter weddings bring open fireplaces, candlelight, mulled wine and spiked hot chocolate at the bar, blankets on request, softer light for photos and off-peak pricing. In June, July and August, catering is by food trucks.

For smaller guest lists, the venue runs micro weddings for around 4 to 40 guests. Couples can keep the full ceremony and reception with a smaller crowd, hire the venue for a ceremony only with time for photos across the property, or book an all-inclusive micro wedding package created with The Micro Wedding Co, covering the celebrant, photographer, florals, styling and coordination.
