Swallowfield Vineyards is a family-owned boutique vineyard at Gembrook, which the owners call the hidden gem of the Yarra Valley. It won Best DIY Venue at the 2026 Wedding Industry Awards for the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.
The pitch is a blank canvas with the modern necessities in place. Unlike venues that lock you into a supplier list, Swallowfield lets you bring your own caterers and vendors and style the space yourself, or bring in a planner. They keep extensive supplier lists to help if you want them, including caterers, photographers, celebrants, florists and a DJ.
Phillip Abela is the proprietor and lives on the property. He gives the tours himself, is available on the day to shuttle the bridal party around the estate for photographs, and knows where the light falls. The family have been local for more than thirty years.
They deliberately keep the calendar lean, taking a limited number of dates so every couple gets one-on-one attention. There is no on-site accommodation, but there are options nearby from B&Bs through to camping. Viewing is by appointment only. Compare it with the other Victorian wedding venues.
