Olivia Ferraro, known to many couples simply as Liv, is a Melbourne marriage celebrant and master of ceremonies based in Reservoir. Her site says she has been a celebrant for nine years and has conducted more than 200 ceremonies. The idea came from a co-worker who described a boring, lacklustre celebrant at a wedding and then told Olivia she would make a great one. That comment, she says, changed the trajectory of her life.
Communication has always been Olivia's strong point. She dabbled in community radio in her twenties and has pursued voiceover training since, studying the art of delivery and the voice. Couples get one meeting where she learns their story, then a bespoke ceremony that takes guests through the relationship with storytelling, warmth and humour. She arrives an hour early to set up, check in with vendors and greet guests as they arrive.
Her three packages step up from a 15 minute Essential ceremony to the Signature and Elevated options, which add a Bose S1 Pro speaker with a Sennheiser microphone, music coordination, vow writing samples and suggestions, and your registered marriage certificate sent by Express Post. The Elevated package adds an onsite rehearsal in the week of the wedding and a signing table and chairs if the venue has none. She will dress to suit your colour scheme.
Olivia also works as a wedding MC, running the night from the end of the ceremony until the dance floor opens, liaising with the venue and suppliers and handling every announcement. She is part of The Celebrant Society, a collective of celebrants, and has a network of colleagues to step in if she is ever unwell. Her recent ceremonies include Melbourne Zoo, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Avalon Castle in Cockatoo and Glasshaus Inside in Richmond, and she travels across Victoria.
