The Retreat Port Stephens is a family owned and run accommodation property in Anna Bay, set in natural bushland that backs onto giant sand dunes stretching 32km. Couples book the whole property for their wedding, which gives them exclusive use of the recreation room, the outdoor function areas and accommodation for up to 91 guests. Guests can stay for the weekend or into the week, so nobody needs to drive or hire cars between the ceremony and the reception.
Ceremonies can be held against a rustic bush backdrop or out on the dunes, and there are many local beaches and parks nearby. For the reception, the multi-purpose function room seats 100 guests and looks out over the bush, or couples can hold an all outdoor celebration around the grounds. The Retreat also suits winter and midweek weddings, when suppliers tend to be more available and guests can stay on for a couple of days.
A catering team works regularly at the property and designs menus around each couple's theme and budget, though couples are welcome to bring in their own caterer or self-cater. The Retreat keeps a list of preferred local stylists, planners, caterers and entertainers. All accommodation is self contained with linen and towels provided, and on Friday and Saturday nights music finishes by 11.30pm under EPA noise rules. Compare it with the other NSW wedding venues.
