The Billi Resort is a boutique resort in the Cable Beach tourist precinct of Broome, named after Bilingurr, the local Indigenous name for the Cable Beach coastal area. For a wedding the whole resort is booked exclusively for the couple and their family and friends for at least three nights, with guests checking in on Friday, celebrating on Saturday and leaving on Monday. Its 18 rooms include eight two-bedroom villas, a studio room and nine eco safari tents set among tropical gardens.
Receptions are held in a garden of evergreen frangipanis and palm trees around an expanse of synthetic grass that stays immaculate all year, with permanent fairy lighting, a purpose-built bar, a large wooden canoe for ice and self-serve drinks and a stage for entertainment and speeches. Ceremonies can be held in the tropical gardens or on Cable Beach, a 15 minute walk away. Events have ranged from four-course seated dinners for 40 to cocktail receptions for up to 120 guests.
Couples supply their own alcohol, with an on-site cool room for storage, and bring in local caterers, who have a dedicated preparation and service area. The resort's wedding coordinator, Lauren, recommends suppliers, liaises with vendors and is on site on the day. Basic decor includes citronella flares, fairy lights, wicker furniture and glass baubles for tea lights. Guests book their own rooms, with 20% off any extra nights. Exclusive use for a minimum three-night stay, with guests paying their own accommodation; a $2,500 security bond applies.
