Simple Weddings was founded by Adelaide celebrant Christopher Steele to give couples an easy, affordable and legally valid way to get married, as an alternative to the registry office. Running since 2014, it has married more than 5,000 couples, and every ceremony is conducted by an authorised marriage celebrant. The team includes staff celebrants in Melbourne, Queensland, Sydney and the Barossa Valley, along with a bookings manager and admin support.
Couples choose a city, date and time and book online in minutes or by phone. Each city has set ceremony days at a regular venue: Nailsworth Community Hall in Collinswood (or a Walkerville park in the warmer months), 139 Victoria Parade in Collingwood, Club Auburn in Sydney, Mercure Brisbane Garden City, the Oaks Gold Coast Hotel at Surfers Paradise and the Tanunda Rotunda in the Barossa. Ceremonies at a location of the couple's choosing can also be arranged.
The team handles the Notice of Intended Marriage, ID checks and lodging paperwork with Births, Deaths and Marriages, so a wedding can happen soon after the legal one month notice period. A letter to support a visa application comes with each booking, and the service says it is recommended by more than 50 migration agents. Same-sex weddings are available, and every ceremony is a brief, no-fuss legal ceremony.
