Ruwi's Cakes grew out of a hobby. Ruwi began baking in a high school food technology class in 2009, and after a serious badminton injury in 2010 turned to baking as a way to heal, practising recipes for hours until they were mastered. With encouragement from Ruwi's brother Sawan, an Instagram account began to attract customers, and Sawan is now a business partner in a company offering cake designs tailored to each customer.
The Wedding Collection is a curated range of traditional and on trend designs in sizes and tiers for anything from small family gatherings to larger weddings, catering for 10 to 160 coffee servings. Couples order online in a few clicks, choose a size and flavour, and the trained delivery team brings the cake direct to the venue. Vegan and gluten friendly wedding editions, engagement cakes and cake tasting boxes are also offered.
The finish is mostly buttercream, from semi naked tiers dressed with fresh roses to textured and ribbed designs, and the business says it uses fresh local ingredients, from the eggs to the milk. Custom cakes can be requested by enquiry. Ruwi's Cakes delivers across most of metropolitan Melbourne and can check venues outside the zone.
