Monty King is a Newcastle celebrant and MC and the 2025 ABIA NSW Celebrant of the Year, known for story-driven ceremonies that are properly moving and genuinely funny.
Monty King, also known as Kingy, is a Commonwealth registered marriage celebrant based in Newcastle who has been performing ceremonies across the Hunter Valley since 2015. His site counts more than 800 weddings and more than 200 five star reviews, and he was named the 2025 ABIA NSW Celebrant of the Year. He calls himself a love rustler and a raconteur, and believes the ceremony should be the good stuff: the springboard into an epic day rather than something your guests have to endure.
Monty is not interested in lecturing your guests about what marriage is. He wants to tell your story: how you met, where you are now and what comes next, without the fluff. Every ceremony is written around the couple and aims to land somewhere between properly moving and genuinely funny. Love is love on his site, and any adult couple able and wanting to marry is welcome. In the lead up he talks when you need to and leaves you alone when you don't.
Bookings include all the legal paperwork, unlimited contact, a personalised ceremony and on the day delivery with a professional PA system, with Hunter Valley travel included. Monty also MCs receptions, so the same person carries you from the ceremony to the dance floor, and the MC add-on can be added later. Hunter venues he has worked at include Adams Peak Country Estate, Circa 1876, Peterson House, Tocal Homestead and The Woodhouse at Wollombi.
Beyond standard weddings, Monty runs Underground Lovers, an elopement collaboration in a below street level Newcastle bar for couples and up to ten guests. With fellow Newcastle celebrant Monty Haron he runs The 2 Montys charity wedding event, which has supported causes including Camp Quality, the Starlight Children's Foundation and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. He says there is nothing he loves more than a road trip, or even a plane ride, for a wedding.
