Mewburn Park Homestead
A restored 1850s homestead on a 300-acre working farm near Maffra, where the ceremony, photos and a clear-view marquee reception all happen on one Gippsland property.
About Mewburn Park Homestead
Mewburn Park Homestead is a restored 1850s homestead near Maffra in Central Gippsland, set within 20 acres of gardens on the family's 300-acre working farm. The property was first built on by Captain John Johnson in 1847, and the original homestead, servants' quarters and brick Stables still stand. The Vardy family bought the estate in 1985, and Adam and Julia Vardy have run it as a wedding venue since moving back from Germany in 2016.
The idea is a private-property wedding with the hard parts handled. Ceremonies can be held almost anywhere on the grounds: in the Homestead Gardens under oak and elm trees, in front of the 1850s brick Stables, or in the Old Farmer's Shed with its herringbone brick floor, which doubles as the wet-weather plan. Guests then move to a pop-up bar for drinks and canapés while the couple take photos around the gardens, lagoons and paddocks.
Receptions are held in a 25 by 10 metre clear-view marquee looking over the gardens, farmland, Stables and mountain ranges. It comes with polished concrete flooring, a deck, fairy and festoon lights, fans and heaters, and furniture for up to 130 guests. Couples add a beverage package and choose one of five local caterers recommended by the venue, and Julia and Adam act as on-site venue coordinators on the day.
Mewburn Park has hosted more than 400 weddings. Micro weddings for 10 to 40 guests are also offered, mainly Sunday to Thursday, and two on-site cabins, the Lakehouse and the Mountain View, are reserved for wedding couples. The homestead is about two and a half hours' drive east of Melbourne, with Sale around 20 minutes away for guest accommodation. Compare it with the other Victorian wedding venues.
