Kate Browne is an Adelaide-based marriage celebrant whose registration came through on 1 May 2015. The idea took hold during a family discussion around the dinner table, and a love of writing and no fear of a crowd made celebrancy a natural fit. Since then Kate has performed more than 700 weddings and says the job still feels like a passion, because no two weddings are ever the same.
The ceremonies Kate writes are meant to be laid-back, fun, light and engaging, with no fuss, gimmicks or clichés. Couples fill in a 'Your Story' questionnaire about how they met, the experiences that have shaped them and what they love about each other, and the ceremony is written from scratch around those answers. Help with writing your own vows is included, and Kate finds 20 to 25 minutes is about the right length for most ceremonies.
There is one comprehensive package whether you have 2 guests or 200. It covers a free first meeting, planning catch-ups, a rehearsal at your venue if needed, unlimited phone and email contact, travel, all legal paperwork and lodgement, and help applying for your official marriage certificate afterwards. Couples also get access to an online Ceremony Planning Dashboard of checklists and guides, plus a portable wireless sound system with hand-held microphones. Kate books just one wedding per day.
Before celebrancy Kate spent around eight years in administration roles, from receptionist to executive assistant, and holds a Certificate IV in Celebrancy and a Certificate IV in Business Administration. On the day Kate arrives 45 to 60 minutes early and works with your venue coordinator, photographer and musicians. Kate covers Adelaide, the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island, and will travel almost anywhere for a wedding.
