John Rice is a wedding and elopement photographer who has been based in Margaret River since 2010, working across Yallingup, Dunsborough, Boranup Forest and the wider South West of Western Australia. His photography is candid and documentary in style: rather than directing static poses, he uses gentle prompts, steps out of the way and photographs what actually happens. Camera-shy couples are a particular focus, and many couples who dread being photographed say they ended up enjoying it.
In that time John has photographed more than 600 weddings and planned and photographed over 300 elopements, from vineyard and private property weddings to small intimate celebrations. Every wedding package starts with a personal consultation, venue location scouting and timeline planning, with an engagement session option, then covers the day from preparations to reception. Couples receive a sneak peek within two to three days and an online gallery of high resolution images within one to two weeks.
For eloping couples, John offers all-inclusive planning that brings together photography, permits, celebrant, florals, hair and makeup and locations, and he works with couples from Perth, the east coast and overseas, including the UK, Ireland and Singapore. Born in London, he studied Fine Art in Bournemouth, and that art school background still shapes how he sees light and landscape. He also photographs family, couple and proposal sessions.
