About Gwendolynne

Gwendolynne is the Melbourne bridal couture label of designer Gwendolynne Burkin, who studied fashion design at RMIT University and founded the label in 1997. Every gown is designed and handcrafted in her Fitzroy atelier, where she works closely with each bride from the first conversation to the final fitting. Her designs draw on the Art Deco and Art Nouveau eras, vintage textiles, mythology and nature, using luxurious silks, French lace and intricate hand embellishment.

Brides can choose a signature design and personalise its fabrics, trims and fit, or commission a fully bespoke couture gown, with each piece cut from a bespoke pattern and refined over a series of fittings. The beading designs are created exclusively for the label and hand beaded for each order. The atelier makes gowns for every body, from petite to plus size, and its Curve collection shows how the designs can be styled for fuller silhouettes.

Interstate and international brides can order selected made to order designs after a virtual appointment by Zoom, FaceTime or phone. The atelier also makes veils in chapel, fingertip, mid thigh and birdcage lengths, along with hand embellished boleros and belts, and offers alterations and restyling of heirloom gowns. Appointments run on weekdays and Saturdays at the Fitzroy studio, and the first half hour consultation is complimentary.
