Charming Carriages
Charming Carriages is a small family owned horse-drawn carriage business established in 2009, now based on a farm just east of Denmark and serving weddings across Western Australia's Great Southern with its two draft horses, Percy and Lady.
About Charming Carriages
Charming Carriages began in 2009 with a dream, a Shire horse named Bob and a first carriage, both of which travelled all the way from Victoria to Western Australia. Seventeen years and more than 400 weddings and special events later, the business is still family owned and operated. In late 2023 Sorrell and George Ferguson found a small farm just east of Denmark, moved the family south and prepared the property for the horses, and the Great Southern is now home.
The team is two draft horses. Percy is a black Clydesdale gelding standing 17.1 hands who joined as an unbroken young horse in 2018 and has since passed his training with gold stars, and Lady is a 17 hand mare bought as a weanling in 2018 and now training as a carriage horse. They pull a black Victoria carriage, made in Beverley, WA, and around 40 years old, which seats four; the FAQ also lists a six seat Vis-a-Vis carriage and an eight seat wagonette.
Wedding options run from a horse model for the photo shoot, to riding into the ceremony on one of the draft horses, to arriving in the carriage behind a single horse or a pair, with cultural weddings and Baraat processions catered for and the horses trained to stay calm around loud music. The service is fully mobile across Denmark, Mount Barker, Albany, Walpole and surrounds, the business is insured for public liability, and bespoke carriage experiences are available on request.
