Carla Davern is a full-time civil marriage celebrant based in Sydney, working across the city as well as the Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains. She has been a celebrant for around 15 years and has been involved in more than 2,000 weddings. Couples she has married tend to describe her the same way: easy going, kind, bubbly and warm. Before celebrancy, Carla spent more than 30 years as a professional singer in the Australian music industry, and she credits that life on stage for her ease in front of a crowd. It shows in her ceremonies, which aim to be romantic, fun and personal. She is also familiar with Jewish, Greek, Sri Lankan and Indian wedding traditions and works to weave cultural elements into the day respectfully.
Her process starts with a 15-minute call, then a detailed planning chat once you book. You complete her Love Story Questionnaire, and she drafts the ceremony with you until it feels right. On the day she arrives early to set up a battery-powered Mipro PA system that carries clearly to around 200 guests outdoors, then lodges all the legal paperwork with Births, Deaths and Marriages afterwards.
Carla offers a simple mid-week No Fuss legal ceremony, a fully personalised ceremony, and a ceremony plus reception MC package where she runs the timeline, speeches and introductions. She also performs live ceremony music as a duo with guitarist Dan, and partners with Lovesick Weddings on a One Stop Shop package covering styling, florals, photography and music. Venues more than 30km from the Sydney CBD may attract a travel fee.
