Cairns Tropical Marriages is the celebrant business of Tim Kelly, who marries couples across Tropical North Queensland, from Cairns and Port Douglas to the Tablelands, Innisfail and Mission Beach. Born in London, Tim moved to South Africa in the 1980s and now works as a celebrant in Cairns and Port Douglas. With more than a decade of experience as a celebrant and master of ceremonies, Tim describes celebrancy as a pleasure rather than a job, surrounded by love and laughter.
Tim is a self-confessed incurable romantic with a firm belief in love and commitment, and the site is clear that every couple is welcome, whether straight, gay, trans or non-binary. Couples deal with one person from first enquiry to the final signature, and Tim promises calm guidance and a professional, organised and adaptable approach. Ceremonies have been held everywhere from beaches and rainforest to backyards, fancy resorts and even a tattoo parlour.
The ceremony options run from a legals only wedding with two witnesses, suited to visa or cultural weddings, through to elopements, renewals of vows and commitment ceremonies. Tim's favourite is the personalised ceremony, where each partner answers a detailed questionnaire separately and their own words are woven into their story. Couples who would rather write it themselves can choose the create your own ceremony option, starting from Tim's first draft template and resources, with a final polish before approval.
Tim also works as a wedding MC, organising the bridal party after the ceremony, liaising with venue management and your musicians or DJ, and keeping speeches, the first dance and cake cutting on track. The site lists popular spots including Palm Cove, Fitzroy Island, the Cairns Botanic Gardens, the Cathedral Fig Tree, Lake Tinaroo and The Billabong in Kuranda, and Tim is happy to help couples find somewhere a little different.
