An oyster farm and waterfront restaurant at Cambridge, five minutes from Hobart Airport, hosting weddings of 20 to 250 guests with views over Pittwater.
Barilla Bay is a working oyster farm with a seafood restaurant, retail shop and function rooms at 1388 Tasman Highway, Cambridge, a five minute drive from Hobart Airport and about 20 minutes from the Hobart city centre. Surrounded by landscaped gardens and Tasmanian flora, it overlooks the Pittwater Marine Reserve and the Coal Valley. Barilla Bay caters for weddings of 20 to 250 guests across the Restaurant and the Pearl Room, and welcomes same-sex couples.
Ceremonies are held on the greens beside the main building, with the oyster beds as a backdrop, or at the Gazebo, which seats 30 with standing room for 50 more and also suits pre-dinner canapés. The Restaurant has floor to ceiling windows, polished timber floors and elevator access, with views over Pittwater and Mt Wellington, and seats 110 with a dance floor or holds 250 cocktail style. The Pearl Room above it seats 30 for smaller receptions.
A dedicated event coordinator works with each couple, and the menu showcases Tasmanian produce, with seafood and non-seafood options including the farm's own oysters. Barilla Bay does not take ceremony-only weddings, so the ceremony is paired with a reception on site. Guests staying on can join the one hour Oyster Farm, Gillespies Ginger Beer and Candy Abalone tour, which follows the oyster from spat to table.
