Barefoot at Broken Head is a private beach house at Broken Head, five minutes from Byron Bay, and the only private house in the Byron Shire approved for wedding receptions. Five Balinese-style buildings connected by decks and walkways sit in tropical gardens around three towering pine trees, with a back gate opening onto a bush track to the beach. Couples rent the whole house, so family and friends can stay on site for the days around the wedding.
Ceremonies are held on the sand or in the garden. For a beach ceremony the couple walks through the dunes to a stretch of surf beach with not a house in sight and a view to the Byron Bay Lighthouse, while garden ceremonies take place 20m from the Honeymoon Suite. Guests then stroll back along the bush track for cocktails and canapés on the wooden decks, dancing under the rainforest canopy into the evening.
Receptions host up to 70 guests with casual seating for 50 at a time, or formal dining for up to 32 with extra table and chair hire. The reception package covers the essentials, including a marquee on the central deck for larger groups, so no infrastructure needs to be hired in.
