A Shot Above The Rest Photography is the Canberra studio of Melissa Flanagan, known as Mel, a wedding and milestone portrait photographer with more than 20 years of experience. Mel holds an Advanced Diploma of Photography and describes her work as refined, timeless imagery for couples and families who value genuine connection, with an approach she calls effortless, relaxed and deeply personal.
The studio was named Canberra, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains Wedding Photography of the Year at the Wedding Industry Awards in both 2024 and 2025, and Mel earlier received APPA awards for wedding photography in 2016 and 2018. Rather than fixed packages, coverage is tailored to each wedding, and she accepts a limited number of weddings each year to keep things personal.
Planning starts with a private consultation, in studio or online, to talk through your vision, look at real weddings and shape coverage around your timeline. After that meeting Mel holds your date for seven days with no pressure. Hand designed leather and acrylic albums are available, and her booked dates include Canberra favourites such as Pialligo Estate, Gold Creek and Ginninderry Homestead.
